How to survive allergy season?

21 Dec 2017

Warmer weather and seasonal allergies go hand in hand. Everybody faces the possibility of suffering from allergies, but seniors need to be especially careful with it. Good news is that there are some measures that you can take to get through the allergy season safely.

1. Avoid allergens. If you enjoy having a walk in the park, try to have a walk in a shopping centre or another indoor location instead. This way you minimise your exposure to allergens.

2. Avoid grassy areas, especially areas with freshly mown grass. If you do physical activity on the grass, go to the beach instead if you can. The beach tends to have much lower pollen counts.

3. Keep your windows closed. By doing this, you can prevent pollens and moulds from entering your home. For the same reason, keep your car windows up while driving.

4. Use the air con and dehumidifier to keep the air in your home clean and dry and minimise the amount of pollen inside.

5. If you have a clothes dryer, use it. Although line-dried clothes may have an amazing scent, they may also have a lot of pollens.

6. Take a shower and change your clothes after having been outdoors, so as to ensure a minimal amount of pollen and mould in your home.

7. Recognise the symptoms and seek medical assistance if you think that you might be suffering from seasonal allergies.
