Stay Independent

26 Jul 2017

We all wish we could live an independent life, but it gets harder as we age. Suddenly, we realise that some activities that we used to do on our own become almost impossible without help. There is nothing to be ashamed of.

Fortunately, there are some services available to provide you with the help you need to continue living independently. One of those services is SAIL, which is delivered by Age UK Lewisham and Southwark. The aim of this service is to provide a single point of contact with the various services and organisations in Lewisham that help older people maintain their independence, safety, and wellbeing.

This service is for people aged 60 or over who need help with health and wellbeing, mental resilience, social inclusion and decreased isolation, financial inclusion, fire safety and wider home security issues, and personal safety and security. You can refer yourself or you can ask a relative or a friend to do it on your behalf. You just need to download this form, complete it and email it or post it to Lewisham SAIL Connections. After you’ve done that, they will call you to confirm which services you need and within six weeks these services will get in touch with you asking how they can help.

The main advantage of SAIL is that you can be informed about all the services available by filling in a single form and this makes it easier to find out what specific service you need to apply for. For more information, you can visit this website.
