Yoga: Get Fit And Relax

We all know the importance of being as fit as possible while aging. We are also aware of the relevance of living a stress-free life. Did you know that yoga is an ideal way to accomplish both?  

But what is yoga exactly? It is a spiritual and ascetic discipline, a part of which, including breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures, is widely practiced for health and relaxation. Among its benefits are an increase of strength, flexibility and balance and it can also lower stress levels. It is very popular with people with arthritis, and some research suggests that it can reduce pain and mobility problems. 

The question is: am I too old for yoga? The answer is NO! You can start yoga whenever you want. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that if you are a senior citizen, you will have to find yoga classes aimed at older people. It is very important, as yoga exercises vary depending on age and it should be taught by someone who is familiar with your age group. You don’t need to be very fit either, but it’s essential that you know your limitations to join a class that is suitable for your fitness level.  

Some yoga events for seniors are planned in Lewisham. These events can be a good way to find out whether you enjoy doing yoga. If you do, don’t wait any longer and find a yoga group. You won’t regret it.
