Why we love Lewisham

08 Aug 2017

If you have lived in Lewisham for your entire life or you are new in the borough, we all want our neighbourhoods to be pleasant places to live in. The fact is, there are many reasons to be proud of Lewisham.

For example, did you know that Lewisham has the highest number of parks and green spaces of any London borough? There are 45 parks and 13 nature reserves that provide natural spaces where we can walk, do sports or simply get some clean air in the middle of the city.

In 2004, Lewisham became the first council to have a directly elected Young Mayor, whose responsibility is to help young people make their voices heard by decision makers. The Young Mayor plays a crucial role in Lewisham, as making young people get involved in our community means investing in the future of our borough.

Lewisham is also home of Goldsmiths, University of London. Artists Malcolm McLaren, Damien Hirst and Antony Gormley, fashion designer Mary Quant and musician Graham Coxon studied at this university.

These are just some reasons to be proud of Lewisham, but of course there are many more, maybe as many as people who live in our borough. Is it its people? Is it its diversity? Why do you love Lewisham?
