The benefits of swimming

16 Aug 2017

Swimming is one of the best all-round sports. It is a great way to stay healthy and active and it creates a healthy body and mind. Whether you can swim or not, it is never too late to start swimming. It is also a lifelong skill, so if you used to be able to swim, you probably haven’t forgotten how to do it.

There are several reasons why swimming is an excellent form of exercise. It is one of the best sports for not putting stress on the joints or connective tissues, which explains why so many older people take up swimming. It can help reduce high blood pressure, lowering the risk of heart disease or strokes. Another benefit of swimming is that it improves cardiovascular conditioning, muscle strength, posture and flexibility. It is also very relaxing and it helps you burn about the same amount of calories as a fast walk.

If you have physical conditions, you should ask your doctor before you start swimming. If you can start, try to make it a habit: establish a routine and set aside time every week to go to the pool. Swimming with a friend can be a good idea, as you will encourage each other when you are not feeling like going to the swimming pool. Of course, you’ll meet people who are interested in swimming too, so it can help you make new friends. All in all, there are so many reasons for swimming that making an excuse not to do it takes more effort than going for a dip.
