Versed thoughts (chapter 68): The Point of It All

06 Jan 2024

Dear LPG,

Over the years, the powers that be have had millennia to establish the true meaning of the word ‘Justice’.  We have spent much time defining every aspect of its significance to ensure that life is fair for all but, with a continuing lack of complete success, despite all the time we have had to get it right.  Our world leaders continue to tweak the rules for optimum success, and then we all manage to disregard them to varying degrees, which we so readily put down to human nature.

The words that follow represent my cry against such cruelty and injustice…

THE POINT OF IT ALL

What is the point?
Of murdering the little children?
Of police criminals?
Of painful disease?
Of sudden unbridled destruction?
Of belief in a loving God?
Do we just accept the given?
The painters, composers, poets,
discoverers, inventors give clues,
while unsung heroines reveal
partial answers.

Apoplexy helps to relieve pain – just for a while.
Rationality and spirituality (not religion) replace
the temporary anger.
I know some of the questions to ask.
The bonus of a long life is learning
ways to ask them.
Partial answers to eternal questions
provide clues to the point of it all.
