Scams, the giving and getting factor…

17 Nov 2023

Dear LPG,

I read with interest what was recently written on your pages on the subject of the gullibility of the English nation, and I have to say that I did find a little evidence that supports what Rudy had to say on the subject.

While I could not find a survey which cites any nation as the most susceptible to being affected by fraud or scams, I found the results of a poll which lists the British as second only to Germany when it comes to having our citizens involved as victims of such crimes,  (►►►)

I also found a few other interesting nuggets that perhaps need a look. These included a list of countries where most scams originate, and I felt it might be a good idea to point them out as we start leaving home for summer holidays in the strange far-off lands again.

I found some statistics which show Britain to be the country where each phone is likely to receive an average of about eight scam calls per month. However, that put us seventeenth in the world rankings, with the average Brazilian phone user expecting about twenty calls during the same period.

I wonder if the amount of calls is relative to the amount of success that the scammers have but suffice to say that the problem is still out there and as evident as ever. Please be careful.
