Year seven beckons…

26 Jun 2023

Dear LPG readers,

Today marks the first day of the 7th year that we have been able to share our message online.

Things have changed so much during that time, but we hope our readers agree that our overall message remains the same. From the beginning, we have done our best to make sure that we give the older people of our community a voice and the opportunity to get their points of view across on so many levels.

The first reaction of most people encountering our pages continues to comment on the diversity of the subjects broached. As our posts bring home the many ideas that we older people still have to contribute to having a point of view that is still to be reckoned with, LPG does their best to provide a platform.

When our first edition rolled off the press in 1984, it looked very different, but as the years passed, the editorial group continued to marvel at some of the ideas we were asked to include.

We hope that our pages give the people who offer their messages an opportunity to discuss any subject they want, and we work hard to ensure that every aspect of what the older mind has to offer is included.

Having found our website, using just one finger to swipe upwards allows readers to see so many points of view, and we also welcome the many reactive posts that enhance some of those ideas by agreeing, endorsing, adding to, diversifying from, or even disagreeing with what is already on our pages.

Like many other organisations, we have had no choice but to bring ourselves up to date. Still, while being online has changed how our messages are delivered, we continue to work at our age-old aim of making sure that the internet also hears what we older people have to offer. We at LPG hope never to miss an opportunity to thank our readership and those who contribute to our pages for that.

Since we have been online, the world has been well and truly rocked by so many events which have affected all of us; perhaps the most radical world shaker of our time is the pandemic we have all recently experienced.

We know that, as the years go by, more and more pensioners are gaining the knowledge and IT equipment needed to access our pages; there are also more people gaining pensioners status who are already armed with the IT knowledge required to get their views across.

But we will repeat that we are willing to make sure the views of as many pensioners as possible are represented by doing the writing for them. A message left on our phone, or our contact page is all we need to start that process.

So, while we are busy allowing ourselves to celebrate yet another year of existence, we would like to remind our readers that we depend on you to ensure that our work continues…
