Wellderly is the order of the day today…

19 Mar 2024

Dear LPG,

I can't help but be inspired by the many different facets of life that your writers bring to the pages of this website through their messages, and your placing of them on celebratory days never ceases to remind me of just how many of those there are dotted over the world's international calendar.

You have got me looking to see which ones are the most unusual, weird, appropriate and needed as we navigate each year, and I think that I have found one which is mainly for us older people today.

As I was scrolling down one of the many internet lists, my focus was brought back to this one because the celebration's point was unclear. I have never been good at spelling, but this word left me with no idea of what should be acknowledged. The term 'Wellderly' stopped me in my tracks.

But now that I have done a little investigation, I think I have found internet evidence of a day which may well be particularly appropriate for the people who are most likely to be reading the pages of the LPG website.

If the site's editor has managed to post this message on the right day, today is National Wellderly day.
The focus is to promote health, well-being and especially joy for older people of all ages.

I read that happiness is the order of the day, and before we even start spreading all that happiness and positivity around, we should each start the day with a look in the mirror where we can share a good laugh with the person looking back at us. Note, I did not say at the person looking back at you, but if that works, why not.

Finding the fun in life is what this celebration is all about. While there are lots of smiles to be had as we older people look back on our lives, its inventor, Dr Dale Anderson, wanted to promote a day when, no matter how young or old we are, our sights should be firmly focussed on looking to a positive fun-filled future.

So, while we all know that the negative can get in the way sometimes, this is a day when it is positively not allowed!
