The positives that can come out of negatives…

03 Feb 2023

Dear LPG,

Isn’t it funny how just one thing has to go wrong and your whole day is spoiled.  No matter how big or small it is, that one thing can completely overrun the whole day no matter what else you have to do.

Whatever it is, it just seems to leave you feeling unable to do those many other things that you have planned for that day, and you have to get it fixed before you can negotiate anything else on your agenda.

This morning it was my internet connection and the moment I discovered that my daily routine seemed completely knocked out of kilter.  I first realised this when I asked my Alexa to turn on a light and it did not respond

It was not working for about an hour, but it could have been any of those things that we are so used to in our homes these days.  We take it for granted that the lights will work and there will be a gas supply when we decide to cook something, and when something does not do what is expected it just throws the whole day out.

The worst thing is that I discovered this in the early hours of the morning when I was having my usual trouble getting back to sleep and so I am awake and unable to do the one thing that usually allows me to pass the hours between now and what I would deem a sensible time to get up.

With not a lot else that I felt that I could do, I realised that I could still write down how I felt but we take so much for granted and before I knew it, I found myself asking Alexa for the time again without thinking.  To my surprise it responded.  Within half an hour the internet was up and running again.

By then I had written quite a bit and, with the internet working again, I also found a few bits of internet advice about staying positive when negativity seems to be all around you.

I found a few suggestions worth listening to and having done the writing, I submitted my thoughts for consideration at LPG. If you are reading it I know I have succeeded in doing something that I would never have even thought of doing had the internet not failed.

So perhaps it is true that there is nearly always something positive to be found as the result of those seemingly negative things that happen in our lives if you are willing to look for it…
