Preparing to breathe out…

31 Jan 2023

Dear LPG,

I am writing today in the hope that I can bring one of the many annual celebration days to the fore.  I hope that LPG will print my message at just the right time to give readers a day’s notice of one of those awareness days that most people think that we oldies are perhaps least likely to benefit from.

Did you know that tomrrow, some parts of the world will be celebrating National Breathing Space Day?  Of course, it is generally accepted that most of us pensioners have nothing but breathing space once we have left the world of full-time work but, while all our sons, daughters, nieces, and nephews think that we have nothing to do with our time, any pensioner with even a few months’ experience knows that we are still busy people too.

I bet that right now there is at least one of those younger family members asking if you could take in an online shopping order or collect a grandchild from school.    If that is not the case, you might be a pensioner at the other end of the spectrum where you do have too much time on your hands which I think can only lead to your overthinking everything, and we all know that too much of that can lead to those really negative thoughts that sometimes take over.

I urge all LPG readers to take full advantage of this acknowledgement day by planning something that will allow you to be able to breathe out at the end of this day, wither with friends or alone.  Take a day off from all the bits of daily routine (that make you too busy, or not busy enough) and plan something to refresh the spirit on the day in question.  I hope that my message will allow you sufficient notice to take this very special celebration day on board...

PW, Bellingham.

Just in case planning a seriously self-indulgent day leaves your mind a blank, LPG has found a like to somewhere that might help you get started…
