Giving those knees a helping hand.

17 Feb 2023

Dear LPG,

As we get older I have found a lot of my friends complaining more and more about what they can feel going on in their knees, and lately I have stopped being the exception to that rule.

It is all very gradual, but it seems that it catches up with us all in the end and, while many of us start to walk with a mini limp that slowly gets worse, the other thing that we cannot help doing is talking about it.

It starts with the occasional ‘oh’ as you feel those little sharp pains when you transfer the wrong amount of weight on the wrong leg while it is at the wrong angle one day and it all seems to go downhill from there.

It is then that we start blaming all the abuse we have piled on during our younger years; the football, marathons, dancing, sitting behind a computer desk all day or spending far too much time doing a job where you are expected to spend the whole working day on your feet.

I know that by asking LPG to print my message, I am preaching to the converted by mentioning this but there is a point to my bringing up the subject.

There is little we can do to improve the situation once the pains start but I have found a video or two that has helped me a bit.  So, if you are at the beginning of a similar experience, in addition to visiting your GP, trying some exercise, might help to stave off the inevitable for a little while longer.
