Nightly liquid interruptions…

17 Oct 2022

Dear LPG,

There are lots of things that happen to us older people but one that we all seem to complain about as we get older is the fact that we never seem to get enough sleep.

It is not something that we ladies really like to talk about that much and the gentlemen in our lives find it an even more difficult subject of conversation.

The problem is that, as we get older, our sleep seems to be interrupted by ever increasing trips to the loo in the middle of the night.  This means that we get up having missed out on even more sleep then ever and wake up the worse for it.

With this in mind, I thought that it would be a good idea to see if there are any things that can be done in an attempt to minimise the amount of nightly trips we need to make.

It is obvious that not drinking is one thing that we can do but I know how many times we older people get told that drinking is vital for health.  For all that I have no doubt that I am not the only older person who is woken by a full bladder.  I bet a lot of us experience that time of the night when we are woken up with that ‘feeling’ and we lay there trying our best to ignore it without success;

I took a look online to see if there are any other solutions to minimising the amount of times that we get reminded about our weakened pelvic floor muscles and it becomes the reason that you don’t get a good night’s uninterrupted sleep.

There were some interesting tips which is why I have asked LPG to share them on this website.
