Every picture (chapter 47); it’s not unusual but it’s not something you see every day…

19 Aug 2022

Dear LPG,

I thought this would be a good holiday snap to add to your collection of pictures that tell a story.  I took it while on holiday last week and although I spent no time assessing the best place for the sun to be so that I could get the best colour effects, I think that it is worthy of a picture postcard for any business trying to promote a peaceful and restful holiday resort.

I suppose you could say that this could be a post card picture and there is nothing unusual about it, but I took it in St. Ives in Cornwall last week when I was on holiday and, now we are home again it is the shot that brings back memories of just how perfectly idyllic a reflection of calm and tranquillity the past week has been for us.

You nearly don’t even miss the one aspect of a holiday that could be missing for more adventurous holidaymakers.  It was mid-morning on a beautiful summers day as my wife and I walked along this beach and the only other people in sight for each of us was the other.

When we arrived, we decided on a bit of liquid refreshment at the hotel bar, but we arrived to find that the only other person in the room was the only member of staff who was reaching for something low behind the bar. We thought there was no service for a moment and nearly left.

Practically having the complete hotel to yourselves is something that everyone dreams of and there were so few people in residence that you could say that we experienced the most personal service that I can ever remember, and we enjoyed our five days so much that we stayed an extra two days without any problem extending our hotel stay.

So, while I am not trying to provide a shot for the hotels next brochure or be an advert for holidays in that part of the world, I cannot help but offer this suggestion.   While so much of the rest of the world is fighting to get on the few planes that are still bound for far away and exotic holiday destinations and the British weather continues to give the rest of the world a run for its money, if you are looking for a truly restful break get down there while you can!
