Versed thoughts (chapter 48): Spring and Autumn

04 Sep 2022

Dear LPG,

I think that in England, the first thing so many of us will talk about when finding a way to start a conversation is the state of the British weather on the day.  There is no doubt that what you see when you get up and take your first look outside can affect your mood and I am no exception although another subject that is always close to my heart is my poetry.

These days, poems come in so many guises and their different formats are so varied, but I feel what they are trying to tell us is so much more important than their form, so I found myself with this to offer about one of the most popular ‘first contact’ topics of British conversation.

SPRING AND AUTUMN

MY TIMES OF THE YEAR

Spring and Autumn are my favourite seasons, how I love and appreciate these times of the year.  If it’s not too warm or cold or wet, I’ll be out and about enjoying myself; living my life as best as I can; eating all my favourite foods and simply enjoying life out of doors in the fresh air.

Learning new skills, enjoying the thrills of coming and going without making a fuss.  Dressed in my lightweight clothing, making new friends and all that jazz! Summer and Winter I’d gladly miss out even though I am thankful for all four seasons.

Strange though it seems I feel more at ease with myself in the Spring and Autumn. In the Winter months I’m locked behind closed doors, keeping warm with hot drinks and praying the central heating will not break down. When I go outdoors I’m wrapped from head to toe in winter hat, scarf, thermal vest, gloves and boots; fleece and wool to keep me warm but apprehensive in case I slip and fall… which sad to say has happened to me before.

What are your thoughts on the four seasons of the year?

Which is your favourite, which months do you prefer?

They are all important I hear you say now, and you are so right; for as far as I can see, during Spring, Summer, Autumn and even those dreary Winter months, life is never dull whether in or out of doors: as everyone appears to be active, with children having fun playing in the snow, busy building snowman after snowman and then knocking them down again; pretending that they are not really bothered about the Winter weather.
