Keeping your finger on the pulse of life…

07 Jun 2022

Dear LPG,

Did you know that today sees the start of World Heart Rhythm week?  I know that other writers have offered posts on the subject in the past, but I was looking around the internet when this came to my attention, and I found a lot of detailed and complicated information about the significance of needing such an awareness week.

The short version of what I learnt is that, not only is it important to know what is going on with your blood pressure.  Each of us also needs to be aware of just how fast our heart is beating and, if it is in the habit of skipping the odd beat or two from time to time, that is not a good thing either.

This awareness week is designed to remind us about how important it is to be aware of more than just our other two blood pressure readings.  We need to tune into what our pulse might be warning us of as well.  Breathlessness and palpitations can be warning signs and I found quite a few bits of online information which are worth looking at, so I have asked LPG to print my message to help make readers think a little more about what their pulses are doing from time to time…
