A couple of things worth remembering.

22 May 2022

Dear LPG readers,

We all accept that as we get older we are going to suffer from more ‘senior moments’ and I think that I am getting there.  I find myself checking things that I am sure that I have done just in case I have not, even though most of the time I have remembered.

The fact is that as we get older we don’t have to remember quite so much.  Perhaps it is another case of ‘practice makes perfect’.  I know that routine is the key and not having to have one which is as regimented as when you are at work every day can really confuse the issue.

How many times do you wonder if you remembered your front door key just as you close the gate on your way out?  I nearly always have them, but I still find myself reaching for them in my coat pocket just to make sure that they are there.   I know quite a few people who have managed to lock themselves out and I remember doing it twice during my lifetime so far.  I think that that is about average though.

There is also the classic moment when you go upstairs for something important that you need to have so that you can continue doing something downstairs, only to find that you have forgotten what you went up for when you get to the top.

I know quite a few people who are quietly worried about memory so I looked online to see if there is a test or challenge that might help and there are a few.  I found them quite entertaining although I am not sure that they have helped my memory at all.

LPG is always encouraging us to share what we find so I would like to share these with any readers who have given a thought to how their memory is fairing now, although I don’t think that they are the be all and end all of how well yours, or mine for that matter, is holding up.

In my humble opinion people who worry too much about things like this, unless it is obvious that there is a problem, are wasting their valuable time with all this analysis when there are so many other things they could be doing with their brain power, but the quizzes were fun…
