Ladies be free! Gentlemen put the ‘BIG’ complement aside just for one day…

06 May 2022

Dear LPG,

As a lady who has never been the slimmest of the species, I know all about being a member of the fairer sex who has spent a lifetime trying to be just a bit less than she is.  What I mean is I have always been a little bigger than I wanted to be, well quite a bit bigger than I wanted to be, although most of my friends tell me that, if anything I am only marginally larger than I should be.

I know so many friends who feel the same way and the big question is why do we care so much?  I am not saying that trying to look good is easy for any of us members of the arguably fairer sex, but most of us 60-something year old ladies find themselves with a very complicated two-fold image problem when we leave work and set off on life’s holiday years.  We are trying to look thin and young all at the same time even though most of us dipped our fingers into the sea of male companionship and picked our own personal ‘fish’ many years earlier.

But today is National No diet day so I strongly suggest that we skip a full length look in the mirror before leaving the house and embrace our size, no matter how much weight we think we need to lose.  This may well be the day to put away the crispbread and diet shakes, and unless there is a health reason to stop you, buy that extra fattening cream cake when you pass the bakers and have that extra spoon of sugar in your coffee to accompany it when you get home, without involving your conscience.  One day won’t hurt.

Today is International No Diet Day and we should embrace it.  Apparently we have a lady named Mary Evens to thank for this celebration, she started an organisation called Diet Breakers and established this liberating celebration thirty years ago today.

Gentlemen, you need to get involved too.  Compliments are so important, but they don’t all have to be about appearance.  Today is the day to compliment your female friends about everything apart from how they look, and just in case you are not sure how, I have found a few online lists for you to gen up on in preparation…

 LG, Penge.

LG offers what the internet has to say on the subject of appropriate complements for today…
