Something worth a personal calculation perhaps…

13 Feb 2022

Dear LPG,

I recently came across the LPG website again and I have to say that I forgot just how many different subjects that the people who offer their opinions and messages on the site manage to touch on.  I found myself looking back to some of the more recent past posts and the one about remembering to drink enough water each day took my interest (►►►).

DT was talking about remembering that you need to drink the stuff in the winter as well as the summer and reminded us that lots of hot drinks contain water which can be included in one’s daily intake count, but it occurred to me that not everyone is the same size although many websites tell that 2.5 to 3.5 litres a day should be our average. This left me asking the question, how can a perfectly formed, football playing, sports orientated, strapping boy of 6’3’’ (like my grandson) and a much shorter, older person who is retired, a bit on the plumper side and whose only exercise is a walk to the shops or the bus stop if his grandson hasn’t got time to give him a lift (like me), need the same quantity to maintain (or improve?) our respective fitness levels?

Another look at the internet helped me with the question.  You can find a calculator for everything online and using the ‘get at least three estimates approach’, I entered my details into the appropriate answer boxes and these three all produced the same answer.

I thought a few more readers might like to try although it’s still a lot to take in, in more ways than one…
