Winter water habits…

02 Feb 2022

Dear LPG,

We were all hear about the importance of making sure that we drink enough water each day and have you noticed how trendy it is to be carrying one of those new style water bottles around with you each daywhen you go out these days?   The joggers have those ones designed to be held in the hand while on the run and,  on many a hand bag,  man bag, back pack or coat you can see a holding pouch designed for such a bottle.  T and they have become as popular as mobile phone pouches once were not so long ago.

Since the end of lockdown, I have been taking two of my younger grandchildren to school each morning, and as I am standing around in the playground trying to keep warm it appears that with every child is in possession of a and the water bottle.  It is as ifs seem they seem to be accepted as to be part of the uniform these days which, I suppose is not a bad thing.

I have always tried to be healthy and take getting a fair amount of water down the hatch each day quite seriously but, at my age, I draw the line at carrying a trendy bottle around with mey just to be cool.

And on the subject of ‘cool’, it is winter now, when the sight of a 2-litre bottle of the cold stuff could put you off drinking for life!.   This got me thinking about if you need the same amount of water on a winter’s day as you do in the summer.

The NHS suggests that we should be getting between 6 and– 8 cups of the stuff a day but reminds us that there are ways that we can disguise it as it goes down.  If it is taken hot and in a relatively clear cup of something hot, it counts but if you are like me that means that it may well include an amount of sugar which may do more harm than good.

The problem with anything, in my opinion, is that abstinence is much easier to cope with than regulation, any habit you are trying to break and the thought of drinking a cup of tea without sugar in  it would be a true punishment to my taste buds.

I have found some answers to the question of how much water is needed in winter and ways of getting it down without discomfort to your body, mind and soul, and I hope that sharing this advice will help some readers rethink their daydaily  internalet hydration habits, orf at least review and check them.
