Versed thoughts (chapter 46): FAVOUR(ITE)

14 Feb 2022

Dear LPG,

In these 21st century days where we find ourselves, many will think of the little tokens that are given to each guest at a wedding or other celebration when the word ‘Favour’ is uttered; those little momentums that are designed to help you remember the occasion.  But in mediaeval times when a man fell in love with a woman he gave her a gift as a token of his love.  This was called a favour. Maybe it was a necklace or a brooch, but evolution and time has changed our perception of such a gift to that of the all-important engagement ring.

It may be that remembering the feelings that would demand the giving or receiving of such a gift are planted somewhere deep in the vaults of our reminiscence as we get older, but today is a day to bring them to the surface again and look at such a token while you think of the memories, love or deep friendship that provoked the acquisition of the thing in question.

FAVOUR(ITE)

Once upon a time,
she would have displayed
my badge of favour.

I sought to woo her,
not for a one-night stand,
but dreaming of permanence.

Enchantment, laughter,
kisses; her wisdom
overwhelmed me.

Above all, for fifty swift
years, unparalleled love
was rooted in our souls.

For eternity, the expanding universe,
suns, moons,  sparkling stars
will forever shine on our love.

Intertwined, not separated.
Space and time don’t matter.
Our favours brightly glisten.
