Keep learning…

26 Oct 2021

Dear LPG,

As I get older the thought of forgetting things is a worry.  We all know that dementia and related illnesses are likely to affect us as we get older, and it is something that worries me even though I don’t think I have a problem now.

Every now and then I have one of those moments when I get all the way to the top of the stairs and then wonder what I went up there for, and in spite of the fact that I used to have those when I was a lot younger too, it bothers me a little more these days.

I was looking on-line recently and found a couple of interesting items about ways of keeping susceptibility to a minimum and, because I have had the conversation with friends of a similar age on quite a few occasions, I decided to do a bit of research on what can be done, if anything, to delay how it will affect me.

We have all heard what is said on the odd television program or in books, but I must admit to dismissing a lot of it, I read and watched the web pages that I have asked LPG to share because they encouraged me a little.  I know that there is a great deal of other information to be accessed out there and that there is a lot said about the importance of preparing the brain to fight it well in advance of getting to older age but, all that said, I hope that there will be some value found in the pages I have selected.

The articles focus on the importance of continuing to exercise the brain by making sure that there is always something you are learning, and reading what is said was a lesson in itself for me that I hope I can pass on…
