Versed thoughts (chapter 42): FOR SALE

24 Oct 2021

Dear LPG,

We all know that in order for our world to continue to evolve there has to be change.  We see it all around us and hear about it on the news, but when you bring it down to a more local level, it can affect a community in a much more personal way.

People come, stay a while and then move on as they engineer the evolution of their futures, but their houses remain as new occupants move in.  Many of us look forward to our new neighbours but find saying goodbye to those who relocate a challenge we would often rather sidestep, and while some of those who leave are looking for the next adventure in their lives, others have no choice.  There are constant ‘FOR SALE’ notices on my road. We said goodbye this month to a young family moving out because of the cost of living in London, and to an old lady no longer able to look after herself and her garden.  Such changes were the inspiration for my poem today…

FOR SALE

You walk past and are curious.
Are they downsizing because of age?
Has it got too small, with the twins?
Maybe they read the papers and want
To move to New Zealand.

The notice is there for months;
What’s wrong with the house?
Or the estate agents? Price
too high? Only one bathroom,
with no ensuite?

Look at the pictures on the website.
Opportunities galore – kitchen modernisation,
patio and garden remodelling,
build in the ample loft space
or over the garage. Years of work.

Look up and down the road -
Movers in and movers on galore.
Make an offer without delay.
There is a great plus factor -
The What’s App. group’s friendly welcome.
