Another potential case of government ‘give and take’…

09 Aug 2021

Dear LPG readers,

I know that Covid-19 has impacted on the finances of every walk of life in so many ways.  While our lives were being threatened from the obvious health point of view, we have nearly all had to deal with the financial fall-out as well.

World Governments, the corporate world and every individual has been touched and that has been hard for us all.  We pensioners perhaps have been the individual section of society who have been least affected and for those who have savings and good pensions, the financial adjustments have been relatively easy to cope with while other aspects of the last year have been harder.  But for those who have to adjust to a serious initial drop in income the day that their retirement happens, it is really hard going.

I believe that the government recognised all this half a century ago when they started making life a little easier for us pensioners.  About 50 years ago they introduced the Freedom Pass and free prescriptions, and the TV licence for the over 75 year olds was given to us some 20 years ago.  But the rules keep changing which is quite hard on many pensioners.  We have already had the TV licence taken away and now it appears that free prescriptions are to be the next privilege that is to be affected yet again.

A friend sent this information to me and I have to admit to not having heard about this particular threat until I first received it.  I hope that LPG readers will agree that something has to be done.  We need to make sure that we are heard and one way that you can do this is to sign an online petition.

I was sent the details of one way that we can help and ask readers to register their disapproval by signing the online petition that I have asked LPG to provide the link to below.

I know that the government are feeling the pinch too but there must be other ways to sort themselves out apart from penalising the people they are supposed to be in existence to help.
