A day not just for scholars…

14 Jan 2022

Dear LPG,

For me it was only yesterday that I wrote a message for LPG readers about the part that intuition has to play in our decision making (►►►), and at the time I also mentioned the other ingredient that, I think, makes for a successful resolution to any conundrum.  While focussing on intuition, a personality trait that I think I possess quite a lot of, I mentioned that other quality, logic which nearly always has to accompany the thought processes when decisions have to be made, and while I was searching the internet for bits of information to back up my message, I stumbled upon the fact that Logic has its own celebration day and, if LPG was able to grant my request about when this message is posted, this is the day in question.

I hope that some readers were able to try some of the quizzes that I asked LPG to highlight when writing about intuition and, having written about the advantages of listening to those powers over six months ago, I felt it only fair to find a few quizzes to test and improve the Logical aspects needed to balance our powers of judgement because, having thought about it I have decided that, you need a fair amount of both qualities to come to any conclusion.

From what I can see this is a day for conferences and high level meetings on the subject, and when I think of logic, the thought of all of history’s thinkers and scholars come to mind together with puzzles and pictures that only those with seriously high IQs have the brain power to make any sense of.  But often without even taking the time to analyse what we are doing, our life experiences have played a serious part in developing this attribute in all of us, because every aspect of life demands us to make decisions.

Assuming that most readers of LPG are pensioners, I have no doubt that we have all had a lot of practice when it comes to determining the best way forwards.  I also suspect that looking back to see if we got it right will have left us with mixed feelings, but there is nearly always a decision on the horizon that is yet to be made.  I hope that a little exercise in logical thinking helps you celebrate your past successful decisions to date.
