Personality; a multifaceted celebration of what makes you you…

05 Mar 2022

Dear LPG,

I think that the long, lonely days of Covid-19 succeeded in making me lazier than I have ever been. I wonder if I will ever be able to get up in the mornings again without wasting some time either watching telly in bed or finding something on my tablet which waylays my attempt to prepare for my day for an hour or so? The world might be getting back to some sort of normality, but I still feel the need to go at the slower pace that recent months have forced on me. I have got truly used to sitting up in bed and getting caught up in YouTube, and not so long ago I found the three videos and a bit of information which gave me a reason to ask LPG to post this message today.

It was a while ago now, but I found the videos first and then the fact that, if LPG have put my letter up on the day I asked, today is National Multiple Personality day.

On a serious level it is designed to highlight a condition called Dissociative Identity Disorder or multiple personality disorder which, from what I have read is quite frightening, although, from what the internet informs us is that a relatively small proportion of people are affected.

It is also thought to be a day when we are supposed to take a good look at our own personalities and from that perspective, I think it should be sub-named ‘complex personality day’ because I have yet to find a person with a single or simple personality.  I don’t think I have ever worked out exactly how to pinpoint the simplest traits of my own personality let alone anyone else’s.

The internet tells us that scientists have cracked it or are at least working on figuring out how to analyse it all, and you can even find out about some aspects of your own personality by taking an on-line test or two.

There are hundreds of them and the three videos I have found are each designed quite differently but aim to give anyone who takes the tests they offer some insights about their own personalities.   I am not sure exactly what I have learned from my attempt to understand what I have read on the subject, but I spent an entertaining half hour watching, answering the questions and coming to that conclusion.

So whether you are a reader who is psychologically still locked-down and living life at a much slower pace, or if you just want to indulge in a little celebration of your own, I hope this insight to some of what your personality might reveal provides a little entertainment today…
