Dig out your 20s – I bet you have more than you think!

01 Feb 2020

Dear LPG,

One of the commodities that is most likely to occupy our thoughts regularly concerns money, and after the changing of the £5 note and the £10, which seems to have happened so long ago now, we have settled down with the plastic versions and accepted them, but there was always mention that the £20.00 note was also for the chop in 2020.

Well 2020 has arrived and it was four years ago that they inflicted the new £5.00 note on us, on September 13th 2016, and a year later, on September 14th, the £10.00 paper note began to disappear.  But after a three-year gap that we were warned about the new £20.00 note is coming.

Did you know that the bit of financial paper we have all come to know as the £20.00 note is the most common bit of paper currency in UK circulation?  This could well be why we had to wait a bit longer for it? I also read that it is the most forged note in circulation in the UK which leaves me thinking that it is most probably the most saved and hoarded bank note in the country too.

The day to be of release will be February 20th which is not that long away, and after that we will have only four months, until the end of June 2020, before we will not be able to spend the old ones in a shop any more.  So perhaps now is the time to get all those ones which are hidden in your savings boxes, at the bottom of your old handbags and, all those other hiding places and get them ready to spend in preparation for the switch, because if the statistics are to be believed you have more of these ones lurking around the house than you realise.

One more thing to be learned is that the polymer £50.00 note is coming, but no date has been set for that yet.
