The shape you make when you wake?

01 Dec 2018

Dear LPG

Reading your post which was dated 22nd November 2018  and entitled ‘Morning Stiffness’(►►►), got me thinking about that very problem but from a different point of view, and my findings were enlightening to say the least. While I agreed with nearly everything that KR had to say, it occurred to me that there was one aspect of the issue that had not been taken into consideration.  I think that we need to take a serious look at how we sleep and approach our symptoms using the ‘prevention is better than cure’ tactic.  With this in mind I got out my lap top and swivelled my Google finger around the mouse pad for a bit and I was quite surprised at what I found.

Apparently most sleep positions are good for one thing and not so good for another, but most of the information I found informs that sleeping face upwards on your back can help to keep your backbone healthy and minimise strain on your neck, but it is the worst position for snorers to adopt if they are to let their partners get any sleep at night.   There is a lot more information and I hope that LPG will be able to share the video that I found on the subject.  It appears to be American but I have no doubt that their beds are much like ours and the results should be similar.

I have to admit that I suffer as much as everyone else here, and for all my efforts to assume the recommended position when I go to bed each night, my early morning consciousness never seems to find me in the same position as I left it the night before.

Perhaps this is an easier experiment to conduct if you have a partner which I don’t any more but the video even has some solutions for this problem.

LPG has found the very instructional video that HS wanted to share

We also found that a lot of research has been done on the subject of good sleeping positions  and we have added that information in addition.
