A day for the people

30 Jun 2018

LPG would like to take this opportunity to remind our readers about Lewisham People’s day.  We are aware that many of our internet readers live nowhere near the borough yet are welcomed by their own boroughs, towns and parishes to similar community days throughout the summer months.

We at LPG have been showing up at Mountsfield Park for the past decade and this year we will do the same.

Now that our newspaper has become web based it is good to see all the readers that use our contact page to stay in touch, but events such as People’s Day allow us a more personal opportunity to make contact with our readers.  We are all too aware that many will not be able to attend, as a part of getting older often means that it becomes more and more difficult to be on our feet for the time it will take to get around to all the stalls and organised activities on the day.  Some will need to avoid the overwhelming excitement of the children, younger people, music and the general noise that will result.  It is also a fact that we never know what sort of day to prepare for weather-wise; it can be so hot that some suffer from heat stroke, while other years have been so cold or wet that people avoid attending altogether.

But in spite of all those variables LPG will be there with the sole purpose of meeting as many people as we can so that we can spread the word about this website, what we are trying to achieve, and allow at least some of our readers to meet some of the people behind our organisation in person but, our main aim as always, is to learn about what readers most want to see on our up and coming web pages.

We do say this a lot, but cannot say it too many times… We depend on the ideas, experiences and thoughts of the older section of our world community for the information that we share, and base our ultimate aims on the principle that learning about an experience from the point of view of someone who has already been there, all be it at a time when the knowledge is not particularly relevant to you, can arm you for a time when it is really needed.

Very little has changed since we stopped producing a printed news sheet and went electronic.  We are still happy to do the typing needed to get your thoughts posted online.  All we need is a telephone call, letter or email so that we know what you want to share with us and we always have, and continue to, make sure that the identity of our writers is kept secure. We also pride ourselves that we never share anything online until the person that offered it has seen exactly what will be printed.

So, if you happen to be at Mountsfield Park on Saturday July 7th, regardless of your involvement with us older members of the population, come over and say hello and share your concern, experience, issue, thought, story or any other information.
