Celebration day

02 Sep 2017

Dear LPG,

Do our readers know just how many commemorative days there are in the world’s annual calendar these days?   We started off with Christmas, Birthdays and Easter but now we have so many ‘off the wall’ days that it is really mind-blowing.  There are some very thought provoking days like Human Rights Day  on December 10 and World Peace day on the 21st of September.

Did you know that National Hugging Day falls on January 21st while  Groundhog Day is celebrated on  February 2 (there is  a film dedicated to that one), and June 18th has been designated International Sushi Day.  I bet there is something commemorated on each of the 365 days of the year by now. In October we in England dedicate the whole  month to Black History, while World vegetarian day and World Farm Animals day follow each other on the 1st and 2nd of that month.  February 19th has been named temporary insanity day and while we are preparing for Christmas we should all have a break on December 15th so that we can properly observe International Tea Day.

So if, as you get older, you feel that you have celebrated sufficient birthdays, there has to be something alternative that you can celebrate on the day; whichever day of the year it falls on.
