Back to my Back.

15 Apr 2018

Dear LPG,

I am not as young as I used to be and, with older age, I think that the worst aspect is the pain in my back.  I know that I am not the only one.  It is common knowledge that arthritis gets us all in the end.    I remember, when I officially retired, that there was little difference, in my mind, between being in my  60s than when I was in my 40s but, now I am in my mid 80s the main difference is the amount of time I spend being affected by back pain.

I continue to refuse to give into it and I do my best to get out and about taking regular walks.  I have read that this makes a difference, because working through pain and mentally showing it that it will not get the better of me helps with the ‘mind-over-matter’ aspect of staying strong.   So life continues to go at a slower pace, but I feel that I still get most of the things I want done eventually.

I know that my outlook on life is in no way unique, but I continue to look for new ways of helping to combat this and I recently found some information about a plant called Gotu Kola, which it is my intention to try in the very near future.

From what I have learned, it can have many major positive affects, and it does help with back pain although, like many remedies, it can also produce side effects.

I am off to do a little more research before trying  it and I have written to LPG because I am interested to find out if there are any local pensioners who may have tried it and have some first-hand knowledge to pass on.
