A gentle awakening…

06 Apr 2018

Dear LPG,

As we get older few of us need to get up early anymore, or so I thought.  A special privilege I decided I had earned after all that office work then kicked in.  The week after I stopped working I packed my alarm clock away in a box and I promised myself that I would never need to use it again.   I would go to sleep at night a lot later than ever before and get up when the mood took me.  I had lived on my own for some time and really enjoyed my morning lie-ins.  They gradually left me getting up later and later, in fact, some six months into retirement they had habitually become early afternoon lie-ins and I realised that something had to be done!

I was missing breakfast, the best of the weather and I was often getting to the shops when all the children were on the way home from school at times.  I also realised that being woken up by the harsh tones of the phone was not much fun either, as that sound was as harsh as the trusty alarm clock that I had decided not to use anymore.

It was then that I worked out where to find the alarm app on my smart phone which is a much gentler way to be ushered into each new day.  Nearly every phone has an alarm facility these days and having one of those mellow tones fill your ears each morning is, in my opinion, an excellent way to get any day started.

Nearly every mobile phone has an alarm facility.  LPG suggests that you get a younger family member to help you with finding and setting yours up if you need to.  We have found some examples of the phone tones that PF may be referring to but mobile phones change so quickly these days that their tones do too.
