Better than being a parent: being a grandparent

26 Mar 2018

  1. Grandparents always tell the best stories and give the best advice. If you are a grandparent, you know that when you dispense your wisdom, your grandchildren carefully listen to every single word you say. They know that wisdom comes with age so they are aware of how much they can learn from you. Maybe they pretend they don’t care about what their parents say, but they surely care about what you have to say.

  1. Maybe you have loads of time. Many grandparents are retired, so they have plenty of time to spend with their grandchildren. If that is your case, you know how nice it is: when you are with your grandchildren, you are not in a rush and you can truly be present because you are not thinking of anything else but how to have a great time with them.

3. Let’s be honest: you can be a bit naughty. Because you are not the one who is officially in charge, you can go ahead and spoil your grandchildren with an ice cream or extend bedtime by a few hours. Just make sure you don’t upset their parents!

4. They go home at the end of the day. There is no waking up early or staying up late. You can have a lovely time with your grandchildren for a few hours before you hand them back to the parents. When your grandchildren visit you, they are washed and dressed and you don’t usually have to care about that. Of course, you can give their parents a hand, but you are not the primary caregiver.

Being a parent is great, but do you still think that it is better than being a grandparent?
