Bucket list: a source of inspiration

21 Mar 2018

It is never too late to make a bucket list. It is actually a very good idea: bucket lists help set memories in place that structure life and it can also be an attempt to make life meaningful. Not only younger people can benefit from that, but structuring events and living a meaningful life has a very positive impact on the elderly too.

Older people have dreams. Although we have to be realistic about what could be accomplished and what could not, you should never give up those doable goals. And if you have never thought about it, there are some things that you might find interesting and you could add to your bucket list.

For instance, have you ever taken a road trip? If you can still drive or know someone who would be happy to join you, add this element to your list. It doesn’t have to be a long trip: just a few days would be enough. A road trip is a different way of travelling that will not disappoint you.

You can also write, “Do charity work” down on your bucket list. If you’re retired, you have the time to help others. It will make you feel that your life is meaningful. Another thing you can do is forgiving someone. Maybe you have hold grudges for years and it’s time to forgive and let go.

Another idea is to learn something new. Have you ever dreamt of speaking French or mastering the trumpet? Why don’t you do it?

There are many other items that you can add to your bucket list. Take a piece of paper and write down everything you wish you had done and that still can be done. As you mark items off, you will realise that you are not too old to follow your dreams.
