Staying in all day? No way

19 Mar 2018

There is nothing wrong in staying in. Sometimes we don’t want to go out because it is too hot outside or the rain is too heavy, and sometimes we choose to stay in because we just feel like it. That is something that younger people wouldn’t do, but senior citizens have different priorities and it is totally fine. However, staying indoors all day may fuel anxiety and insomnia. Also, exposure to sun-strength rays helps calibrate your body’s circadian “clock”, which regulates everything from appetite to energy levels – hence the importance of stepping out.

So how can you force yourself to go out? A good idea would be to go to the shop every day. Instead of doing a weekly shopping, buy each day only what you are going to need to spend the day. This will ensure that you need to go out every day for at least a short walk to the shop. You can also make an “outdoors time” schedule: for example, determine which days you are going for a walk in the park, when you are having lunch outside, and how many times a week you are going to exercise outdoors. Just make your own schedule and try to stick to it.

And don’t forget that you can ask a friend to go out with you. If there is someone who wants to spend some time outdoors too, you will find it easier to stand up, put on your trainers and leave the house.
