An LPG pep-talk

31 Dec 2017

You would be surprised to find out what people do to celebrate the New Year, with some really diverse traditions in different parts of the world.  If nothing else there will be many people preparing to bring the British New Year in with a drink, a good vantage point to watch the fireworks from or a visit to Trafalgar Square in London.

Today, the last day of 2017, is perhaps a day for looking backwards and forwards whether you make resolutions or not.   LPG suggests that you leave the looking forward till tomorrow and savour the year that we are leaving behind for just a few more minutes.  We can ask ourselves such questions on any day of the year, but this is the one that is most likely to provoke such thoughts.  So the last day of the year is often the day when we have to ask ourselves what the year 2017 has brought us, and what we have achieved during its duration.

LPG suggests that you do not spend it thinking about all the things that went wrong in your life, although they deserve a passing thought.  Think of all the really positive things that happened over the past year.  Remember that everything that happens has good consequences as well as bad ones and focus on the positive aspects of the events that define your account of the year gone by.

Remember that most of the people who are really successful have had their setbacks and done some really silly and embarrassing things, but they have put them down to experience.  So if 2017 was not your defining year, you need to remember that every mistake is a learning curve, and if it was a milestone year in your life, you need to build on it during 2018.

Cheers and Happy New Year from LPG
