Don’t try this on a mountain top.

27 Sep 2017

Dear LPG,

I recently found this bit of news and thought I would bring it LPG reader’s attention although I feel sure that not many of the readers of this website would be tempted to such heights again.

Four people had to be rescued from England's highest mountain after taking cannabis.  The stranded group dialled the emergency services from a mobile at around 6.30 pm to report that they were unable to walk down from ; a mountain peak which rises to 3,209 feet , (978m),  in the lake district.

Cumbria police officers worked with the Wandle rescue team to find the group and return them to a lower altitude. The Police left a post on social media as follows, “Persons phoning Cumbria police because they are stuck on a mountain, after taking cannabis. Now having to deploy [mountain] rescue, air support and ambulance to rescue them. Words fail us ...”

Superintendent Justin Bibby said 'Never underestimate the mountains.  Taking alcohol or any other substance that could impair your judgement significantly increases your risk of getting into trouble.  It has no place on a mountain.'

It is a good thing that there are not many mountains in the borough of Lewisham though I would not be surprised if a few of our readers did something similar in their youth.

After reading about this in the press, I just had to laugh out loud - you just can't make it up.
