Buy local, buy fresh, buy healthy

07 Oct 2017

We’ve heard many times that the quality of food is not as good as it used to be. However, in recent years local farmer’s markets have sprung up and there are many reasons to support these markets.

Firstly, fruit and vegetables that you get from local farmer’s markets are truly fresh. The products that you find at the grocery store are often several days old before they even reach the aisle. In local farmer’s markets, on the other hand, the products that you can buy have probably been picked up that morning so they could hardly be fresher. For the same reason, these fruits and vegetables are seasonal, which is good for your body.

Secondly, many farmers participating in local farmer’s markets use organic methods to grow their fruit and vegetables. That means that they are chemical free. These products also taste better and are said to be more nutritious, which makes them healthier.

Finally, all the produce at farmer’s market in Lewisham must be produced within 50 miles, so by buying this products you are supporting your local economy and local family farms. These markets are also very social places for local people, as they are spaces where you can easily meet other members of your community.
