The full story in 20 seconds.

12 May 2018

Dear LPG,

I was watching telly recently and got to the advert break.  I saw a very popular advert and realised how quickly the advertisers were able to tell me a really involved story.

I can’t really remember the last time that I ate an M&M sweet, but if you take the time to look at the advert you will see what I mean.

It is called the ‘Scott's home early’ M&M's advert and it has everything; drama, comedy, innuendo and even possible infidelity.

I hope that LPG will be able to put a link to the advert in question below my letter.

You can see the length of the advert when you look at it on YouTube and I think it is ingenious that in just 20 seconds you learn that.

1,         It is the story of an average married couple

2,         they live in a very nice home

3,         the husband works relatively hard

4,         he has a degree of suspicion towards his wife

5,         she has been busy doing something she shouldn’t have been

6,         she has got something to hide

7,         the red sweet is slow on the uptake

8,         and just in case you are not absolutely sure, the yellow sweet delivers his warning late

This is designed to make sure that you buy their product when you are peckish and see them in the sweetshops or supermarkets, and I have to admit to having bought a packet recently.  Apparently, in spite of the Internet, TV advertising still has a bigger effect on what we buy than any other and I am only talking about their power of story-telling.

Is it any wonder that we are taken in so easily?
